Most Precious Asset - Jersey's unique geography is the Island's most precious asset and that heritage must be protected for future generations. Sadly, concern for the environment has not been a high priority until recent decades and Jersey's natural habitat has been seriously degraded. It is sad that unique local species like the agile frog are struggling to survive in an Island that is world famous for saving endangered animals.
Thinking is changing - However, thinking appears to be changing and many local people, especially the young, now understand that care of the environment is of paramount importance if Jersey is to remain a pleasant place for both residents and visitors.
Environmental taxes - The emergence of a Planning and Environment Ministry demonstrates an enlightened government approach and following consistent lobbying by myself, environmental taxes have now been accepted as useful social engineering options within the taxation portfolio, although it is understood that they have limited use as substantial revenue generators.
